Waitan 外滩 or The Bund – a place of scenes, sights and, of course, skycrapers – the iconic Shanghai skyscrapers. Apparently, also a melting pot of people from all parts of the world – it’s still a sight but sometimes, capturing the beauty of the Lujiazui landscape can be a challenge (at least for me). Not because of the people getting in the way, but the mere fact that I get annoyed easily with so many people around…

Until… one night… after over a decade of living here (shame on me), I set foot on another part of Hongkou – North Bund. A place where you still see crowd, but as you go around, you’ll definitely capture the skyscrapers from varying perspective.

The place is North Bund Riverside Greenland 北外滩滨江绿地 (just copy paste this onto your map if you’re in Shanghai and looking for a nice place to have photos). At around 9pm, very few people were strolling – probably because of the cold weather. For sure, summer can be super crowded, but I just got lucky to have seen the skyscrapers unobstructed – the unobstructed Shanghai. The only thing that hinders me is my imagination and creativity. A few more walks and the beauty will bare itself.

Well, there were also a few things that obstructed my view – the passing boats… But it was still a good spot for me by the riverside where there were few people posing and I could just stay there and enjoy some space!

And with some patience – 30 minutes later…

I couldn’t be happier and very much satisfied! The unobstructed beauty of Shanghai.
